How is IVF done with PGT?
After fertilization and before embryo transfer, a small sample of cells is taken from each embryo five to seven days following egg retrieval. The embryos are then frozen, and the samples are sent to a genetics lab for testing.
What age is appropriate for the PGT process?
PGT may be recommended if you are 35, and have a family history of chromosome problems.
What is the process of PGT treatment?
One or a limited number of cells are extracted from the embryo during PGT-A. These cells’ DNA is subsequently examined to check for chromosomal abnormalities. The only embryos returned to the womb are those free of chromosome abnormalities.
When to do PGT?
In order to reduce the chance of miscarriage or having a child with a chromosomal problem, PGT-A is advised when a woman is over 37 and attempting to conceive using her own eggs. This is because the incidence of embryos with chromosomal abnormalities rises with increasing maternal age.
